One of my favourite questions I am asked, at least 10 x a day is "Isn't it all the same? I mean, what's the difference? It's just stone, isn't it?"
I wish that it was that simple.
Someone once told me that success means using the right tool, for the right job.
I also believe that part of success is having the right materials to begin with; right from the start.
If I was building a barn, wouldn't it make sense to determine whether or not I am going to finish with a steel structure, versus a wooden one?
If you were building a bridge, wouldn't it make sense to decide if it would be cable suspension, as opposed to an arched bridge?
When we are embarking on a once in a lifetime investment such as landscape or hardscape, wouldn't it make sense to first begin with the end in mind?
If I want to invest in materials once, get it right and never worry about the quality or integrity ever again; I would begin with knowing what I want to accomplish.
Natural Stone is actually an incredibly complex industry to navigate and understand. Much moreso than the average person considers.
There are two primary factors to consider right from the outset, and they are concerning the quality of the stone. If one simply wants a "cheap" material, there are plenty of suppliers who provide cheap materials.
My father always taught me that "you get what you pay for." While he was always happy to pay less for something good, he was likewise prudent enough to pay top dollar for tools and materials of value.
When planing a sizeable project like landscaping, and using natural stone materials; don't chintz out.
Ask yourself, "What's more important to me; the price, or the cost?"
Most people wouldn't know the difference, and will mistake a lower-priced item as the cost.
Price is not real.
Let me say that again: PRICE IS NOT REAL.
Price is something made up, that you as the consumer is willing to pay, and the seller is willing to let it go for. Price is often negotiable, and should be a matter of what both parties are agreeable to.
COST however, is something that can come back to haunt you sometimes for years to come...
Just because we save a lot of money by buying something at a very low price up front, doesn't mean that there won't be a MUCH HIGHER COST, in the long run.
Have you ever in the past bought something because it was cheaper than what you really wanted, only to discover that it didn't perform, it din't deliver the VALUE you actually sought after?
Have you ever found yourself with buyer's remorse, after the fact of bringing it home, or having it delivered, or when you try to use it??
Natural Stone is one of the greatest investments we can make into our property, our realty investment, our peace of mind...and all too often I find that customers make the decision to go cheaply, over value.
Our process of extraction guarantees that every single piece of stone bought, delivered and installed today, will remain so for thousands of years to come. Every wall built tomorrow will, like the Wonders of the Ancient world, stand for eons.
In our everyday lives, our work, our careers and jobs, we do not always have the opportunities to build something that lasts.
We don't always have the chance to do something of Greatness, to create a Legacy, to leave a mark on this world that says "I was here. I made this."
Armour Stone, and Natural Stone gives us that opportunity.
But only so long as it it is not a "cheap rock" that we bought just because it cost less...
Don't be fooled. Not all stone is created equally.
We look forward to your thoughts, opinions and comments.
